The playground area at Granville Island needed some attention, and we made some landscape updates that were thoughtful improvements to their award-winning grounds.
The planted beds surrounding the playground on the island had become heavily rootbound and compacted from children playing and running through them. To improve this area, we added a natural basalt retaining wall to raise the soil level and improve growing conditions for new plantings. We even added a basalt pathway, giving the public a way to cut through the garden and engage more closely with the plants.
On the adjacent lawn, we completed a full grass conversion. Despite our best efforts —including aeration, topdressing, and seeding — the original turf continued to struggle. The new installation not only reduces water usage but also provides a more resilient and visually appealing alternative.
We’re excited to see how families engage with these newly revitalized areas!
