A Healthy, Diverse, and Inclusive Workplace at Para Space

On November 14th, Para Space Landscaping was recognized at the 25th Annual Burnaby Business Excellence Awards ceremony. The Burnaby Board of Trade (BBOT) presented us with the Healthy, Diverse, and Inclusive Workplace award. We are deeply honoured to have our team and workplace recognized.

The Healthy, Diverse, and Inclusive Workplace Award

This award celebrates Para Space for fostering a positive and diverse team environment. It acknowledges a business that has:

  • recognized the value of employee health and wellness and has created a workplace and culture which supports employees in their efforts to achieve a work-life balance and to maintain and improve their physical, emotional and mental well-being.
  • demonstrated sustained support for advancing diversity and inclusion in the workplace and as a catalyst for within an industry, organization or local community.

What This Award Means to Us

At Para Space, this award is deeply meaningful as it closely relates to our mission and values. It reflects our commitment to creating a meaningful impact and building strong relationships with our team and clients. Since 2020, we have been a certified living wage employer, providing quality wages. We also support team members with developmental and sensory disabilities, newcomers to Canada, and underrepresented groups, including women, Indigenous peoples, visible minorities, LGBTQ+ individuals, and our team as a whole.

Our efforts include flexible scheduling for employees with disabilities and a respectful workplace policy. We have gender-neutral bathrooms at our head office and personalized pronouns in our HR system. A 24/7 anonymous feedback system ensures every team member has a voice.

A Diverse Team

Para Space’s healthy workplace and diversity thrive because of our team. Our management team is comprised of many diverse people, many of whom are women, LGBTQ2+, and ethnocultural individuals. Among these groups, people with disabilities also represent a portion of our team. Together, all these groups contribute to the richness of our workplace environment!

We take great pride in our team’s diversity. It’s an honour to have our efforts recognized, and we are grateful to celebrate the people who make Para Space what it is today!

The awards span categories from innovation to corporate social responsibility. Of these categories, only one award celebrated a Healthy, Diverse, and Inclusive Workplace. BBOT CEO, Angie Whitfield, noted that award winners “are setting benchmarks in their fields and impacting the community.”
