Verticillium Wilt

Verticillium Wilt is a soil-borne fungal disease that affects many trees, shrubs, and ornamental plants, including maples, ash, elm, lilac, viburnum, and others. The disease attacks a plant’s vascular system, leading to wilting, branch dieback, decline, and, in severe cases, death.

Because symptoms can resemble drought stress, root problems, or winter injury, early identification is important. Once established, the fungus can remain in the soil for many years and there is currently no cure for infected plants.
