Foliar Insect Control

Taxus hedges are susceptible to pests such as webworms, scales, and spidermites. These insects attach themselves to the stems and foliage, and feed on the plants new leaves or fluids. This attack debilitates the plants and do not allow them to grow nice and healthy. Serious infestations can eventually kill the affected plants.

These insects can be kept under control by doing several applications of Safer’s Soap and Mineral Oil during the growing season. Safer’s Soap and Mineral Oil are in the exempted list of chemicals that the City of Vancouver has created. They do not harm pets or people and are environmentally friendly.

We recommend a minimum of three treatments starting in early spring but more may be needed if the summer is long and dry.
