What you need to know: Dormant Oil/Lime Sulphur

Lime Sulphur/Dormant Oil

• L.S. and D.O. are sprayed on deciduous trees and shrubs. This spray is done in the winter and helps to clean up the trees.
• The mixture of these two products helps to reduce and sometimes to control “hibernating” insects such as caterpillars, aphids, mealy bugs, scales, and white flies. They also control fungal spores, mites, moss and lichens.
• They work by suffocating and disrupting cellular functions.
• These two products have been used for centuries on fruit trees and roses. They are organic and have a very low mammalian toxicity.
• Perhaps the biggest disadvantage in the application of these products is that lime Sulphur has a very strong odor, very similar to rotten eggs.
