Community Service Project

May 28, 2019

This year we partnered with the non-profit Kogawa House which was once the childhood home of acclaimed author Joy Kogawa and her family. Today, the property is a place of national historic significance serving as a unique live/work space for writers, a space for public events, provides tours for social studies education and is an ongoing symbol of the racial discrimination experienced by Japanese Canadians as a consequence of the Second World War. All our volunteers enjoyed the day and seeing the garden transform. A special thank you to Kato’s Nursery, ProSource, and Bartlett Tree for their generous donation of landscape materials to make this Day of Service a great success!

“Your Para Space crew were absolutely amazing yesterday. I still can’t believe we really have an irrigation system, new plants, and tidy landscaping. It was great to see you engaging with workers and their children and families, and managing the mood and talent. Thank you so much!”¬†– Anne Marie, Education Director at Kogawa House¬†
