Organic matter is a key component in soil and is ideal for optimal lawn growth. Adding organic matter to lawns improves the soil structure and feeds the microorganisms and insects. The soil water holding capacity is also increased, resulting in increased drought tolerance and irrigation efficiency. The nutrient holding capacity is also increased by holding nutrients in the root zone, where otherwise they would be leached from the soil.
Another benefit of organic matter includes a reduction in soil compaction which also improves drainage and plant nutrient uptake.
We recommend an application of pelletized organic matter (dried leaves, grass and plant material) to all lawns on the property.
