Bacterial Blight Control

Many Cherry trees suffer from a deadly bacterial disease caused by Pseudomonas syringae. This bacterium is often spread by insects, wind, and rain. If trees are infected, the new leaves and twigs will appear “scorched”. If the infection is severe, entire branches may die and if left untreated for several years, the entire tree will certainly die.

There is no known cure for this problem; however a treatment of Bordeaux Mix can be applied in spring and fall to reduce the severity of the infection. Bordeaux Mix is an environmentally friendly fungicide and bactericide, with the active ingredients Hydrated Lime and Copper Sulphate. It is recommended for use on a wide variety of fruit trees, vegetables, and ornamentals to control diseases such as blights, mildews, cankers, and leaf spots.
