Our HR team is proud to announce our Living Wage certification! Para Space always strives to provide an excellent working environment for our staff who can always count on full-time employment but also a competitive, fair wage. The Living Wage for Families campaign encourages employers across Canada to pay a healthy wage, as well as advocates for government policies that would help families make ends meet.
Here’s what it means to be certified in BC (taken from the LWE Guide, October 2020):
- Employers agree to ensure that all direct employees and contractors are paid the current living wage rate for their area within six months of a successful application.
- If employees and contractors are paid applicable non-mandatory benefits, the hourly rate that must be paid will take account of this. To find the LW rate in your community, visit our website at www.livingwageforfamilies.ca/living_wage_rates.
- If applicable, employers will create and implement an internal wage policy. An example is provided in Appendix 2 of this Guide.
- If applicable, employers agree to insert a LW clause, stipulating that contracted workers and subcontracted workers are to be paid a living wage, in all future contracts where staff who are not direct employees are contracted to provide services to their organization on a regular, ongoing basis.
