Fall Protection Area(s)

Rooftop gardens are a popular landscape feature on most condominium and commercial high rises. Falls from heights, even relatively low elevations, can result in serious injury. The proper use of fall protection equipment, as well as planning, supervision and training, can reduce or eliminate these risks. Both strata corporations and their property managers are responsible for hiring contractors that meet the legislated and legal requirements to protect the health and safety of workers employed on the project site.

Safety Requirements:

  • Fall protection is required for work at a height of 10 feet or more and where there is a risk of a fall; or from any height where there is some other factor which increases the hazard
  • Hazard assessments specific to a site must be developed and documented prior to starting the work
  • A rescue plan must be determined in advance that would include a designated rescue person to be overseeing the work
